Giving Back to Society

Giving back to society has always been a core value at Canwa, rooted in founder Simon Feng’s early experiences in a poor village near China’s Taihang Mountains. Witnessing the abandonment of children due to poverty left a deep mark on Simon, driving his lifelong commitment to helping those in need. After achieving success as a top tax and financial expert in Vancouver’s Chinese community, Simon made it his mission to support society’s most vulnerable.

Since 2007, Simon and Canwa have been dedicated supporters of International China Concern (ICC), a global charity focused on helping abandoned and disabled children in China, contributing more than 300,000 CAD in donations. ICC provides holistic care, including physical therapy, medical treatment, education, and social services, ensuring that these children can overcome their challenges and thrive.

Other Community Involvement

Canwa also expanded its charitable efforts locally, becoming an active supporter of various causes, including the Richmond Hospital Foundation and BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. Notable charitable activities include:

-At Canwa’s 25th-anniversary celebration, a dedicated charity segment inspired over 250 guests to participate in an auction, raising 46,401 CAD. The proceeds were donated to support International China Concern, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, and Richmond Hospital Foundation, demonstrating Canwa’s ongoing commitment to charitable causes and community impact.

-In October 2023, Canwa organized and hosted a successful fundraising event for International China Concern (ICC), raising an impressive 146,240 CAD. At the event, Simon was also honored as an ambassador for ICC, recognizing his outstanding contributions and ongoing efforts to support the charity’s mission.

-In May 2024, Canwa served as the organizer and title sponsor for BC Children’s Hospital’s Food Allergy Awareness campaign, raising 51,000 CAD to support the FAIT (Food Allergy Immunotherapy) Program. The program aims to improve treatment options for food allergies and reduce patient wait times, making critical care more accessible for children in need.

-Active sponsorship of Richmond Hospital Foundation’s annual golf tournament.

-Supporting BC Children’s Hospital Foundation’s 2024 Care for Kids Golf Tournament. Proudly served as the title sponsor for a local Go tournament for over twenty years, promoting cultural heritage through the traditional Chinese strategy game of Go. (Go is an ancient board game that originated in China over 2,500 years ago. It is played between two players alternately placing black and white stones on a grid of 19×19 lines. The goal is to capture territory by surrounding empty areas and your opponent’s stones. Go is known for its complexity and strategic depth, requiring careful planning, flexibility, and foresight.)

-Extensive involvement in local community events.
